Questions to ask before you buy a snow plow

Whoever you buy from, these questions separate a clean purchase from a headache. Use them with us or anyone else.
About fit
- Is this plow approved for my exact truck — year, make, model, trim, drivetrain and cab? Where is that documented?
- Does my truck's front axle rating allow for the plow and mount?
- Which mount and wiring kit does my truck need?
About the price
- Is the quote itemized — plow, mount, wiring, controller, lighting, labor?
- What is not included, and what could change the total?
- How long is the quote valid?
About installation and the season
- Who installs it, how long does it take, and when is the earliest real opening?
- What happens if the truck needs extra work once it is in the shop?
About support
- What does the warranty cover, who honors it, and where do I take the plow for service?
- Can I get wear parts like cutting edges and shoes locally?
Get it in writing
Ask for the fit confirmation, the itemized price, the warranty terms and the installation date in writing. A clear written record protects you if a part number, a configuration or a promised date changes later, and a seller who is comfortable putting it on paper is usually one who has checked.
If something is described as likely, probable or usually works, ask what is actually confirmed and what still needs checking. Honest answers separate what is documented from what is hoped.
Red flags
- A price with no list of what is included.
- A promise of fit without saying where it is documented.
- Pressure to decide before the truck has even been identified.
- No clear answer on where the plow will be serviced.
How we handle these
We confirm fit before any work, give a written itemized quote, and schedule installations against real bay and technician capacity. Warranty terms are provided in writing with your purchase.
This is general guidance. Your vehicle owner's manual and the equipment manufacturer's documentation always take priority, and fitment for your exact truck is confirmed before any work.
