What goes into the cost of a snow plow installation

Reviewed October 15, 2026 · Rhode Island Plow & Equipment, Johnston, RI

People search for a single number, but an installed plow is a package, and the pieces change with the truck. This guide explains what is in the package so a written quote makes sense when you get one.

The pieces of an installed price

  • The plow itself — type, width and material.
  • The mount (also called an undercarriage or push frame) that is specific to your truck.
  • Wiring and the controller that lets you raise, lower and angle the blade from the cab.
  • Headlight adapters or lighting upgrades, where the truck's own lighting is blocked or needs to meet the plow lighting system.
  • Installation labor, which depends on how much work the truck's front end and electrical system need.
  • Any extras you choose, such as plow shoes, deflectors or a spare cutting edge.

Why a ballpark number can mislead

Two trucks that look alike can need different mounts or wiring, and the same plow can be sold in different configurations. A number quoted before the truck is identified is a guess. We give you a written, itemized quote after reviewing your truck, so you can see each line and approve it before anything is scheduled.

What can change the total

  • The truck's trim and equipment: some trucks need a different mount or extra wiring than a similar-looking one.
  • The condition of the front end and electrical system — corroded or damaged parts can add work.
  • Plow type and width, since heavier or more complex plows can need more installation time.
  • Lighting: whether the truck's headlights stay visible with the plow on or an adapter or upgrade is needed.
  • Options you add after seeing the quote, like spare wear parts or a second controller.

Why timing matters

Installation appointments fill up as the first storm gets closer. Asking for a quote in the off-season or early fall gives you room to compare options and pick a time that suits you, instead of competing for the last openings.

How to get a quote from us

  • Start with Find My Plow or Get Installed Price and tell us your truck.
  • A technician checks fit against manufacturer information; anything unclear is flagged, never guessed.
  • You receive an itemized quote you can accept online, then request an installation time.

Before you compare quotes

Make sure every quote covers the same things: the same plow, the same mount, wiring, controller and lighting, and labor. A lower number that leaves out the mount or controller is not a lower price.

This is general guidance. Your vehicle owner's manual and the equipment manufacturer's documentation always take priority, and fitment for your exact truck is confirmed before any work.
